How to ‘Reset’ After The Holidays
We aren’t here to shame your holiday fun; spending the holidays making memories with your loved ones while enjoying great food and beverages is a part of life’s precious moments. But now that the celebrating is over, it’s time to get back into a healthy routine. You know what that means: it’s time to throw away those leftover cookies! Going back to healthier eating will take some will-power, as your body will crave the foods you have been indulging in throughout the last few weeks but have no fear, below are 4 Steps to help you reset.
1. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!
You should be drinking a TON of water, at least 8 glasses a day but the more the better. Tip: Buy a Reusable water bottle that you refill throughout the day and that holds at least 24 ounces of water. Chances are that if you have it readily available you will drink more!
2. Focus on Clean Eating.
Focus on consuming lean proteins, fresh vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds and whole grains. Instead of focusing on the foods you want to avoid (which will make it much harder), focus on incorporating more of the good stuff into your diet, that way it won’t feel like you are depriving yourself.
3. Sweat it out!
Get moving and get your heart rate up, sweating will remove toxins from your body and your body will thank you. On top of sweating you will burn calories, which will help you to manage your weight.
4. Cut Out Alcohol
The parties are over and you need to give your body a break! Try participating in “Dry January” which is when you cut out alcohol for the entire month. If you go out with friends or family and feel you need something in your hand, drink water with lemon or club soda with a lime.
You will most likely still crave those things you have been indulging in for some time. Realize that you are only human. If you have a day where you eat poorly, rather than beat yourself up about it, promise that the next day you will do better!
