4 Reasons Drinking Lemon Water is The New Craze

Whether you drink it hot or cold, lemon water is being promoted as an all-around miracle worker if drank every day. Lemon water is simply water with a squeeze of fresh lemon added, which means the benefits are essentially the same as those of drinking regular water. Although little research has been done on the benefits of lemon water, research does exist on the benefits of lemon and water separately which may explain why so many people now add lemon to their water! We are here to break down the 4 most popular reasons people are starting to add lemon to their water.

Here are the top 4 benefits of drinking lemon water:

1. It aids in weight loss.

According to Healthline there has been studies done on rats to suggest this claim is accurate, “Research has shown that polyphenol antioxidants found in lemons significantly reduces weight gain in mice that are overfed in order to induce obesity.” This information is why many believe the same effect will happen in humans, but no research has been done yet to prove that.

2. It improves your skins quality.

When your body is dehydrated your skin becomes dry and prone to wrinkles, so drinking water will help to prevent this from happening. Because of the vitamin C found in lemons it may help reduce skin wrinkling, dry skin, and damage from the sun, so it doesn’t hurt to add it to your water and as always- stay hydrated!

3. It aids in digestion.

Some research claims that drinking warm lemon water first thing in the morning aids in getting your digestive system moving. Although studies haven’t proven this, we do know that drinking water aids in relieving constipation so adding lemon may offer the same benefits.

4. It’s a good source of vitamin C.

According to the United States Department of Agriculture, the juice of one lemon provides roughly 18.6 milligrams of vitamin C. The recommended about of vitamin C for adults is between 65-90 milligrams per day. So, although this fruit isn’t the highest in vitamin C, it’s still a source.

If these benefits are proven to be true through research, than that’s great! But until then you should drink it for the taste rather than the health benefits.
